Catherine … for Doodle Week, and hence proving that my drawing skills are pretty ropey.

… after seeing Mamma Mia! last night in the cinema. A definite feel-good film, and I enjoyed it a lot. I wouldn’t mind seeing the stage show, either!
Ok, half the main cast weren’t very good singers, and the plot was somewhat predictable… but it was sweet and funny and having ‘proper’ actors in the cast meant that it was reasonably well-acted too. Everyone left the cinema on a high anyway (and not just because of all the sugary snacks).
… while watching several episodes of Firefly for the good of my soul. I have boxes and boxes of paper in the house because I have a bad tendency to throw all incoming letters into a heap if they’re the ‘file away’ kind rather than the ‘act upon’ kind (the ‘act upon’ ones get put on top of the fridge instead). And these piles have been growing and growing and getting more unruly; I sorted out my properly-filed paperwork some time ago as well and then couldn’t find my birth certificate when I needed it. I found it today, thankfully, else my wedding plans might have had a bit of a hiccup…
Catherine … thanks to a broken gas pipe near my office which saw us evacuated from around 10:50 am onwards. Most of us ended up walking to the Odyssey, and a lot of us piled into the noon showing of The Simpsons Movie since we knew we’d be out of the office for a good while. It was a pretty decent film - they managed to translate the twenty-minute cartoons into a feature-length film quite well, with a plot that did fill the time without too many unrelated tangents (well, no more than usual, anyway), and the level of jokes was sustained decently. Although since I’m capable of watching 3 episodes of The Simpsons back-to-back anyway, maybe I’m not the best person to judge. No Patty or Selma though, which was odd. Spider-Pig made me giggle though…. As did the Alaska references!
Also saw the trailer for Stardust - although it’s the same one I’ve already seen on the net. Was good to see it on the big screen though. I don’t like the way they introduce Yvaine as the fallen star though; the dialogue seems edited to make her cute and sweet… which she definitely isn’t in the book, and the tone of voice of her bits of dialogue indicate that she’s feisty and pissed off… but the words themselves make her sound nicer. Hmm. I’m not explaining very well, but I know what I mean.
Still, I’m looking forward to seeing it - Neil’s had enough involvement that it’s definitely still true to the original text.
… that were supposed to be for the people attending my presentation (which was about our technical writing team, such an exciting subject). Although now I need a cup of coffee…
Catherine … and trying not to drop the book. My copy of Pride and Prejudice is not only covered in pencil graffiti from GCSE English Lit; it bulges at one corner where I dropped it in the bath the very first time I read it.
It’s the only book I’ve ever actually dropped in the water though, and I didn’t even get it all wet… and in around 20 years of reading in the bath, that’s quite an impressive total. (I don’t count the single loose page of Guards! Guards! that fell in once.)
I was reading Jane Austen again today - Sense and Sensibility - and now I have the urge to watch the Emma Thompson/Kate Winslet/Hugh Grant film. I also want to re-watch 13 Going on 30 for some reason, but I’ll have to settle for Jennifer Garner in Daredevil instead, which is on later.
